The American billionaire Elon Musk, the boss of the X platform, reacted harshly to the European Union on Saturday, after the European Commission imposed a fine of 120 million euros on the social media network on the eve, informs DPA, taken over by Agerpres.
“The European Union should be eradicated and sovereignty returned to individual countries so governments can better represent their people,” Musk posted on X. “EU bureaucracy is slowly choking Europe to death,” he added.
Elon Musk did not specify whether he will challenge the decision of the European Commission in court. He continued his criticism of the EU in a series of other posts on X, accusing the European bloc of censorship and calling for the United States to impose sanctions on the EU.
On Friday, the European Commission imposed a fine of 120 million euros on the social network X (formerly Twitter) for violating its transparency obligations under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

Among the violations are the misleading design of its “blue check mark”, the lack of transparency of its advertising register and the failure to ensure access of researchers to public data. According to Brussels, X's use of the “blue flag” for “verified accounts” misleads users. This violates online platforms' obligation under the Digital Services Regulation to prohibit deceptive design practices within their services.
On the X platform, anyone can pay to obtain “verified” status without the company significantly verifying who is behind the account, making it difficult for users to assess the authenticity of accounts and the content they interact with. This scam exposes users to scams, including impersonation fraud, as well as other forms of manipulation by malicious actors.
Also, the EU executive specified that X's advertising register does not meet the transparency and accessibility requirements set out in the Digital Services Regulation.
In addition, the X network is not fulfilling its obligations under the Digital Services Regulation to provide researchers with access to the platform's public data.
