On Saturday, December 6, at 19:00, the closing ceremony of the III International Documentary Film Festival SiberiaDOC will take place in the Krasnoyarsk Cinema House.
This evening the names of the winners will be announced and they will receive awards – unique tactile “Branches” figurines created from Siberian poplar. And the evening will end with the Krasnoyarsk premiere of the film “The Wind Has No Tail” – a poignant story about a Yamal nomad girl on the verge of separation from her family and her world.
During the final days of the festival, Russian documentary directors will come to Krasnoyarsk. Directors whose works explore modern Russia in all its complexity will speak at the meetings with the audience.
One of the programs contains three Russian short films on important topics. It included a film about love “99 letters about everything” by Dmitry Zhukov, a picture about kindness in difficult conditions “The Postman” by Karen Gevorkyan and a story about a new life after prison “Strangers” by Nina Izotova. They will be seen in one session.
Another selection is dedicated to the memory of places and people. Here is a sketch about childhood in an empty village “Closed Doors Day” by Sofia Koehler, a story about the ghost mining town “Sadon” by Valeria Isaykina and a film essay about the harsh north “Black Blizzard” by Mira Erkenova.
For those who are looking for light and warmth, the chamber work “Warm Life” by Nikita Zhuravlev will be shown – a gentle story about the mutual support of a grandmother and grandson.
In addition, the final days’ poster includes other outstanding documentary works from all over the world. Among them are the story of filial love in rugged Patagonia “The Incredible Gold Mining Machine”, the portrait of a Brazilian favela behind the beautiful postcard “Boats”, the exploration of digital control in “Citizen Prisoner” from Iran, the meditative journey “Traces” from Germany and the healing story “Rachel and Me” from Israel.
On December 6, as part of the closing ceremony, the winner of the Grand Prix (Best Film of the International Feature Film Program), laureates of the short and medium film competitions and the Russian program will be announced, and the Audience Jury Prize will be awarded for the first time. The winners will receive “Branches” figurines made by Krasnoyarsk master Boris Potreba, symbolizing the connection of the festival with Siberia. The awards will be presented by a star-studded jury headed by the chairman, the famous documentarian Alexei Vakhrushev, author of “The Book of the Tundra.”
After the announcement of the results, the Krasnoyarsk premiere of the film “The Wind Has No Tail,” directed by Ivan Vlasov and Nikita Stashkevich, will take place. The film tells the story of Nika, one of the youngest daughters in a Yamal nomad family, whom the administration of a nearby village must send to a boarding school, separating her from her family and traditional way of life. A nomadic teacher is preparing the girl for this difficult transition.
The film has already received recognition from the professional community – it was awarded the prestigious Golden Centaur award for the best documentary film in the National Competition of the 34th IFF “Message to Man”. This film will close the parallel program of the festival, which presents the best Russian documentary works of the year.
On December 7, the Cinema House will host repeat screenings of the festival's winning films. At 16:00 you will be able to see the best films from the Russian program and the international short and medium film competition, as well as the film that will receive the Audience Jury Prize. And at 19:00 viewers will see the main triumph of the season – a film awarded the Grand Prix of the international feature film competition.
The festival is held with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
