On Friday, the Sejm did not reject President Karol Nawrocki's veto to the act on cryptoassets. Earlier, Prime Minister Donald Tusk presented information on matters related to state security during a closed session. Then there was a debate about the president's veto.
The Prime Minister appealed to MPs on Friday to reject the president's veto, i.e. to re-adopt the act. He argued that the regulations on cryptoassets give the state tools to control that part of the cryptoassets market that is infiltrated by Russian and Belarusian entities.
He emphasized that there is no doubt that the cryptocurrency market is very susceptible to the use of various tools by the services, foreign intelligence services and mafias. He pointed out that the act provided tools so that the state was not helpless and could react, e.g. in the event of abuse and fraud to the detriment of customers.
Kaczyński after secret sessions of the Sejm: I believe that cryptocurrencies should be banned
PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński said on Friday in the Sejm after the secret part of the session that – in his opinion – cryptocurrencies should be banned. At the same time, he announced that the PiS club will support the president in voting on the veto to the bill on the crypto-assets market.
The head of the president's office, Zbigniew Bogucki, defended Karol Nawrocki's decision. He explained that the veto was due to, among other things, because the act introduced excessive, ambiguous and disproportionate solutions. Referring to Donald Tusk's words and the secret part of the Sejm's deliberations, he said that the Prime Minister was using an unfair method of shutting up, among others. parliamentarians. He added that the choice between the “Russian mafia” and Tusk's bill on cryptoassets is a “false choice.” He also proposed joint work on new regulations in this area. (PAP)
