A man from Maramureş was sued and is obliged by the court to pay 50,000 lei to an internet user whom he insulted, cursed and threatened in comments on Facebook. The divergences between the two took place after the threatened man posted a message about Călin Georgescu, reports News.ro.
The decision, pronounced on Thursday by the Maramureş Court of first instance, is not final, it can be appealed within 30 days from the communication.
The plaintiff, named Vasile Vlașin, published on February 26 a comment about Călin Georgescu, in a post on the Facebook page of the publication Emarureş. The man says that after the comment he was cursed and threatened with death by a netizen.
Vlașin told News.ro that he filed a complaint with the Police, a request to the court and even obtained a protection order.
“Admits in part the request for summons made by the plaintiff Vlaşin Vasile, in opposition to the defendant Suci Dănuţ and consequently: It finds the illegal nature of the defendant's actions consisting of comments published on 26.02.2025 on the Emaramureş Facebook page. It finds that the request to delete the comments published on 26.02.2025 on the Emaramureş Facebook page remained without object. It compels the defendant to publish the disposition of the present decision in a local newspaper at his own expense and on his Facebook page”, the decision of the Maramureş Tribunal states.
What does the one who opened the process say
Vasile Vlaşin, the one who opened this trial at the Maramureş Court, told News.ro that the misplaced reactions of the internet user he sued started from a comment that Vlaşin posted on Facebook, after former candidate Călin Georgescu was stopped in traffic by investigators.
“I posted a comment in which I said that Georgescu's stop was made two hours away from the searches that were carried out at his trusted man, Horaţiu Potra, where weapons, euros, something like that were found. That was my comment. This comment was followed by the intervention of this character”, declared Vasile Vlașin.
“There were probably more than ten comments, with insults, death threats. Later, the threats became serious and many. I filed a complaint with the Police, filed a request with the court and obtained a protection order, because I didn't even know him, I didn't know who to protect myself from. The criminal case is another thing. In parallel, I filed the request with the court. At the last deadline, he went to the court and was able to he said: “I'm sorry, I was drunk”. He went to the court and said that this is his opinion, that he has the right to say anything. And then the court considered that my request was justified”, said Vasile Vlaşin.
He says that, if the decision remains final, he will take the money from the one who threatened and offended him.
“I don't need his money, but he needs to learn and be an example for others. (…) I did this trial because someone has to do it and someone has to be an example for others. It won't change their character, but at least they won't be so free to throw all their messes in the public space, I hope,” said Vasile Vlaşin.
