“I'm not making up a life. I'm living mine the way I want,” he said.

Benoit Costil was a professional footballer for almost 20 years, during which he represented clubs such as Rennes, Bordeaux or Lille. He was also a one-time France international in 2016, when he was part of the squad that lost the Euro 2016 final to Portugal in Paris.
He ended his career in 2024, in Salernitana, and now dedicates himself to… harvesting oysters.
In an interview with the publication L'Équipe, the former goalkeeper revealed that he took advantage of an abandoned oyster farm for 20 years and says he lives his life the way he wants.
“I don't make up a life. I live mine the way I want,” he began.
“I love this connection to the sea, the effort, the sales side, working behind the counter and even washing dishes when it's busy. I just need to learn to open oysters faster!” he added.
The business he has with a friend, Philippe Le Pelve, is growing and he has received praise: “We already have very positive feedback. The good news is getting around and it's our best advertisement. We've even got customers from Texas. As they say in football, we're on the rise!”
The former goalkeeper, now 38 years old, received a visit on Thursday from several former national teammates, such as Yoann Gourcuff, Laurent Koscielny and Christophe Jallet, according to abola.pt.
