The legal process against Hugo Mallo (34 years old), the former captain of the Celta de Vigo team, has come to an end, with the final conviction of the former footballer for a crime of sexual abuse. Now, the footballer must pay a fine of 7,000 euros and compensate the victim with 1,000 euros.

The case dates back to April 24, 2019, from the moments before the La Liga match between Espanyol and Celta de Vigo, played at the RCDE Stadium. The sentence describes how Mallo took advantage of the moment of greeting between the players of the two teams to inappropriately touch Carme Coma, who was working disguised as the mascot of the Espanyol team.

The court believes that the player, “with the intention of satisfying his lust and threatening the sexual integrity of the victim, inserted his hands under the suit and touched her breasts”. With the final decision, the 34-year-old former footballer has ten days to inform the tribunal of how he will pay the criminal and civil penalties.

Hugo Mallo can be fined around 7,000 euros. In addition, he will have to bear all court costs. Mallo was also ordered to compensate the victim with 1,000 euros for moral damages. Carme Coma, the victim, will donate this amount to the Espanyol club, which ensured his legal defense, according to the quoted source.

Hugo Mallo graduated from Celta Vigo's academy and reached the senior team in 2009. The right-back played for the Spanish team for 14 years, until 2023. Since then he has also played for Internacional in Brazil and Aris in Greece. Since the summer he is without commitment. For Celta Vigo he played 449 matches, scored 12 goals and provided 28 decisive assists. He has no career trophies. The maximum market share was in 2018, when its value was estimated by specialized websites at 15 million euros.
