Daniel Băluță began distributing articles denying the information from the investigation related to his family's real estate wealth, published by Snoop and Public Record. Journalists have taken the mayor's every statement and come up with new evidence.
Investigative publications Public Record and Snoop showed on Dec. 2 how:
- On December 21, 2023, Daniel Băluță's parents, state pensioners, bought 8 apartments in one day, for a total price of 480,000 euros.
- On August 19, 2024, a real estate developer sold land and a house to Băluță's brother on the very day that Mayor Băluță proposed approval of the PUD for a 6-story block of the same developer, in Sector 4.
Baluța: “It's a smokehouse”
A day after the publication of the Snoop and Public Record investigation, Daniel Băluță was asked by Euronews journalists, at an event held on Wednesday, December 3, about the wealth in his family's name.
Daniel Băluță spoke only about the first point, that of the 8 apartments bought on December 21, 2023, at RIN Grand Residence, the property of the Negoiță family.
“It's a smokescreen, just like the others,” he characterized the investigations.
“If the journalists had asked me with certainty, I would have answered, but they were in a bit of a hurry, no problem. They didn't ask me at all,” Daniel Băluță declared at the conference on Wednesday.
Journalists publish all messages
Snoop and Public Record publications reached out to Daniel Băluță on Monday, December 1, ahead of the December 2 publication. The mayor of District 4 was first called on his mobile phone, both directly and on the WhatsApp application, at 15:28 and 15:31.
Baluță received the questions on WhatsApp, SMS and e-mail. The reporter Ana Poenariu also called Violeta Boerescu, the communication manager at the town hall, but she didn't answer either.
