“Lotus births” have become popular in Russia: women do not cut the umbilical cord of their babies, but wait for it to fall off on its own.
This practice is offered by private clinics. Babies are left connected to the placenta for some time – it can take from several hours to 10 days for the placenta to dry out and fall off.
Adherents of the “lotus birth” believe that this does not disturb the natural course of events. The child's aggression is supposedly reduced and a connection with space appears.
Now Moscow clinics offer to perform a “lotus birth” for about 200 thousand rubles. Doctors warn that this the procedure is very dangerous for the baby – purulent inflammation may begin, which will require surgery.
