Ciprian Ciucu, the PNL candidate for the General City Hall, stated on Digi24 that the polls he saw confirm the rise of Anca Alexandrescu in the voting options, so she would be his main opponent in the race for Bucharest. On the other hand, Ciucu says that the eventual withdrawal of other candidates from the race is improbable.
“The growth of Anca Alexandrescu since she announced her candidacy is confirmed. She has grown steadily. I expected her to level off, but she went further following a manipulative campaign with a hint of hatred. I can confirm that she is now my main opponent,” said Ciprian Ciucu.
He declared himself confident that he still has the first chance, even if other candidates will not withdraw from the race to support his candidacy.
“I'm very skeptical that someone could withdraw in favor of someone else at this moment (…) The discussion is late”, believes the liberal.
He also ruled out the possibility of asking the USR candidate, Cătălin Drula, to withdraw from the race.
“Maybe I'll give him a call to ask him how he feels, how the campaign is going… There were unpleasant moments in the last few days because I was his main target in the last few days. I ran a campaign as clean as possible”, commented Ciucu.
Ana Ciceală assures that she is not withdrawing from the race for Bucharest: “I have no way to validate, through a withdrawal, exactly the old political class”
Although he assured that he does not see the candidacy for Bucharest as a step on the way to a candidacy for the presidency of Romania, Ciprian Ciucu said that his success is also important for the PNL
“The stake is not only Bucharest. A party has to gain the trust of the people, and from such a position I can impose some standards much better than before. For me, for Ilie Bolojan's team, a victory would mean a lot,” Ciucu said.
