The supporters of FC Argeș displayed a unique banner at Tuesday's match with Rapidcounting for the second stage of the Betano Romanian Cup groups. During the week in which Romania celebrated its National Day, the citizens of Pitesti paraphrased Eugeniu Carada (1836-1910), the former great Romanian economist and writer of the 19th century.

“For a free Romania, anytime, anyway, with anyone, against anyone”. The famous quote spoken by the creator of the National Bank of Romania was displayed in the stands of the Orășenescu in Mioveni, by the fans of the hosts, during the duel between FC Argeș and Rapid.

The patriotic message could be seen at the start of the meeting in Mioveni, attended by around 3,000 spectators. The motto belongs to Eugeniu Carada, a fervent supporter of Romania's independence and modernization. Historians perceived that phrase as his moral-political motto.

Who was Eugeniu Carada?

Eugeniu Carada was a Romanian political economist and writer, he being considered the founder and first director (1882-1910) of the National Bank of Romania. Together with CA Rosetti and Ion C. Brătianu, Carada laid the foundations of the Romanian press and economy, holding, according to Libertatea, important roles in the Union from 1859 and Independence from 1877.

Eugeniu Carada drafted, together with Ion Brătianu, the Constitution of 1866. On top of that, he invested a large part of his wealth in the struggle of the Romanians in Transylvania.

They quoted from Eugeniu Carada » The surprising banner displayed at the Cup match:

Eugene Carada

Carada died on February 10, 1910, apparently of a cold. Although he was perceived as a challenger to the monarchy, the site discoverera.ro wrote that, upon Carada's death, King Carol I mobilized the entire guard in Palatului Square to honor him.

Profile publications note that, on a cultural level, Carada supported numerous publications and educational initiatives, considering the press an essential tool for the formation of modern society.
