In the Kuraginsky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, beavers have created dozens of new “lakes”. The region's Forest Fire Center spoke about preparing animals for winter.

The driver of the Kuraginsk forest fire station, Gennady Beloskov, photographed a new dam on the site of a tiny stream not far from the village of Buhurtak. Nearby there is a poplar tree almost chewed in half, which will also soon become part of the dam.

The Forest Fire Center says that in the fall, beavers have a period of active construction work. At this time, the flow in the rivers slows down and the water level drops to a minimum. These are ideal conditions for building a dam or renovating houses.

“The beaver loves his home, no matter his hole or hut. He takes care of and cherishes his beloved “walls” in every possible way. He patches it up and compacts it there, builds it up and seals it up here, cleans it up here, drags it there. The bedrooms, kitchenettes, and toilets must be in order. Beavers always have the warmest room. By winter, the beaver grows warm fur. There is twice as much fluff on it as in summer. The pile is elastic and soft. In his “lordly” fur coat, he is intensively stocking up on provisions. He drags and drags into reservoirs all, in his opinion, suitable branches. Then he stores them at the bottom of the reservoir and secures them: he sharpens each one with a “pencil” and dives with it under the water to stick it deeper with the sharp end. In times of hunger and cold, the underwater “refrigerator” will supply them with food,” the press service says.

Beavers do not hibernate, preferring to spend time in their cozy houses, warming each other and occasionally going out to buy food.
