Deputy George Simion is the only candidate registered for a new term at the party's leadership, according to HotNews sources. The congress, which will practically give Simion a new mandate at the head of AUR, takes place on Sunday in Alba Iulia.

The current AUR president announced on Saturday evening that he arrived in Alba Iulia, where the party Congress will take place on Sunday, starting at 4 p.m. He will also participate in the events dedicated to the National Day of December 1.

“The AUR holds its regular congress, once every 4 years, in which if I have the trust of my colleagues, I will be re-elected president of the AUR and in which, by the vote of over 46,000 members, we appoint the other leadership positions in the Alliance for the Romanian Union. I'm sorry that we only had a hall with a thousand seats and we don't have room for all the members of the AUR, but these streets are big enough to contain all of you on the Day National”, declared Simion, in a video clip, but he did not specify to his followers that he is the only candidate for the head of the AUR.

Thus, AUR joins PSD and PNL, which also had only one candidate each at the most recent congresses.

Strict rules for candidates for the head of the AUR

Strict rules were imposed on possible candidates who wanted to enter the race for the presidency of the AUR members' party:

  • To be an AUR member with a seniority in the party of at least 24 months;
  • To have the contribution paid up to date;
  • Political program;
  • The list of the team, which is voted on motion, together with the president – the members of the National Management Bureau.

“The composition of the team (BNC members) proposed by each party president candidate can be changed after November 7, 2025, but no later than November 25, 2025, and only within the limit of no more than 25% of the total number of BNC members included in the initial proposal,” according to the rules.

  • The list with a minimum of 100 signatures of supporters – party members, with a seniority in the party of at least 6 months, with the dues paid up to date;
  • List of at least 20 AUR MPs/MEPs – supporters. Signatory supporters (other than parliamentarians) must be from at least 5 counties of the country, with a maximum of 20 signatories per county.

The vote for the party president will be a secret one, according to the party rules.

The leadership of the AUR decided in September that the organization of the congress should take place in Alba Iulia, “the place where the AUR started and where, symbolically, the history of Romanian unity is written every time”, as the party announced at that time.

“The AUR Congress will be a moment to take stock, but also to reaffirm our commitment to Romanians: a sovereignist, courageous party, dedicated to defending the national interest and rebuilding a dignified and strong Romania,” AUR representatives pointed out.

GOLD leadership, already established

On Friday, AUR announced that the party had chosen, through an online vote, its new leadership, with the exception of the party president. Senator Petrișor Peiu is the new president of the National Management Council (CNC) AUR.

Petrișor Peiu is also the leader of the AUR senators and is an important communicator of the party, being the one who organizes weekly press conferences at the Parliament on topical issues. Peiu thus takes the place of Claudiu Târziu, who resigned from the party when he held the position now taken over by Petrișor Peiu.

Along with Peiu, 14 new vice-presidents were elected, AUR announced:

  • Adrian Axinia – MEP AUR;
  • Răzvan Biro – deputy and president of Tineret AUR;
  • Ramona Bruynseels – deputy AUR;
  • Mihai Enache – AUR deputy, former candidate of the party in Bucharest in the local elections of 2024;
  • Andrei Gușă – deputy elected on the SOS Romania lists, but transferred to AUR from September 2025;
  • Ramona Lovin – AUR deputy;
  • Mugur Mihăescu – AUR deputy;
  • Dumitrina Mitrea – AUR deputy;
  • Sorin Muncaciu – AUR deputy;
  • Valeriu Munteanu – AUR deputy;
  • Gianina Șerban – AUR deputy;
  • Dan Tanasă – AUR deputy, who recently urged Romanians to reject parcels delivered by workers from Asia and Africa;
  • Georgiana Teodorescu – MEP AUR;
  • Nicolae Vlahu – AUR senator
