The Minister of Defense, Ionuț Moșteanu, submitted his resignation on Friday, November 28. He motivated the withdrawal by the desire not to distract attention from the missions of the Romanian Army.

The resignation comes after the media discovered that he had falsified his CV by claiming to have attended a university he never got to. Following his resignation, Prime Minister Bolojan announced that he will propose interim Radu Miruță, the Minister of Economy. It should be noted that neither Ionuț Moșteanu nor Miruță have any training that would recommend them to deal with the security and defense of the country.

No Moșteanu is the main culprit

General (r) Dan Grecu is president of the Romanian Reserve Officers Association. He was in Afghanistan, Iraq, Eritrea and Ethiopia and was decorated in turn by the United States of America, the UN and NATO. General Dan Grecu explains, for “Adevărul”, how the profile of the future Minister of Defense should look and touches on the subject of Romania's vulnerability.

In his opinion, Romania is more vulnerable than before, even if the Minister of Defense has resigned.

“I had normal relations with Moșteanu, personally I have nothing to reproach him with. I met him twice, as the president of the Association of Reserve Officers in Romania. We discussed an activity that our association carries out next year and he said that he supports us. I also had another discussion with him to remove from the law on national defense, population preparation for defense, the last article which, how should I say, cancels the service of the reservist voluntarily. And he accepted both of my proposals. Now, what he did with the CV, I don't comment. But from my point of view, it is not so much his fault as the system. He should be checked, in order to be unassailable.” says General Grecu.

What the profile of the future minister should look like

“With or without Moșeanu, we are still there”General Dan Grecu pointed out.

Regarding the ideal profile of the future Minister of Defense, the president of the Association of Reserve Officers from Romania is of the opinion that someone with diplomatic experience would be needed.

“It would be preferable, from my point of view, for the future minister to have at least international diplomatic experience. And of course, that goes without saying, to be balanced and to have the ability to analyze the geopolitical situation. For that, I don't think he needs to be a military man in reserve. He just has to be a person with international diplomatic experience and international recognition,” he said.concluded General Dan Grecu.
