The end of November brought slight reductions in petrol and autogas prices, while the increase in the average retail price of diesel oil was only minimal. A clear drop in wholesale rates gives hope that we will also see lower prices at gas stations in December.

This year's autumn is marked by a systematic increase in fuel prices in Poland. After the September increases, prices at station pylons stabilized in October. Only to go up sharply in November. The price of diesel fuel in particular increased, and at the end of this month it was the most expensive since February.
In the last week of November, the average retail price of diesel oil in Poland was PLN 6.26/l
and was a penny higher than a week earlier – according to BM Reflex data. The average price of unleaded 95 gasoline was PLN 5.92/l and was 4 cents lower than a week ago. Autogas was refueled after an average of PLN 2.66/lwhich is a penny less than last week.

We are writing here about average prices throughout the country. Prices at individual stations may vary by up to several dozen cents per liter, depending on the location and the strength of local competition. You can still find stations where you can fill up with gasoline for significantly less than PLN 6 per liter. As well as those where the fuel costs over PLN 6/l, which at current wholesale prices can be considered a gross exaggeration.
Despite the autumn increases, the prices of some fuels remain slightly lower than those seen a year ago. The average retail price of Pb95 petrol is still PLN 22/l lower than a year ago, and autogas is on average PLN 54/l cheaper. However, diesel oil on average costs PLN 3/l more than 12 months ago.
The relief in wholesale is not yet visible in retail
Very good news for owners of diesel cars has recently come from global fuel exchanges. A tonne of diesel oil on the London ICE on Friday cost USD 685.5/t, although two weeks ago the rates were over USD 800/t. As a result There was a significant reduction in the price of “diesel” also in Polish refineries.
On November 28, Orlen offered Ekodiesel fuel at PLN 4,772/m3, which after VAT is less than PLN 5.87/l. This is as much as 31 cents per liter cheaper than a week ago, when the wholesale price of diesel reached its highest level since January. If this state of affairs continues, diesel fuel in retail “should” soon cost approximately PLN 6/l. Of course, provided that the largest retail operators do not change their pricing policies and do not want to increase their margins.
Wholesale gasoline prices also fell. In Orlen's Friday price list, Eurosuper 95 gasoline was listed at PLN 4,430/m3, which translates to almost PLN 5.45 after adding 23% VAT (excise duty, fuel surcharge and other para-taxes are already included in the wholesale price). At this moment, the average retail price of Pb95 gasoline is as much as PLN 47/l higher than the wholesale price. This should result in a drop in retail prices. Especially at the most expensive stations, where prices shamelessly exceed PLN 6/l.
As usual, it should be noted that fuels could be much cheaper if it were not for taxes imposed by the authorities. From every liter of gasoline or diesel oil purchased, over 50% goes to the state. Without paying tribute to the government, we could fill up with Pb95 petrol for approx. PLN 2.60/l, diesel for approx. PLN 3.10/l, and autogas for approx. PLN 1.60/l. The difference between the pylon rates and the above prices goes to the state treasury.
