The head of the PiS delegation in the European Parliament, Adam Bielan, announced at a press conference that PiS MEPs voted on Wednesday against the draft EU budget for 2026, among others. because he continues to support the European Green Deal policy.

On Wednesday, the head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, signed the EU budget for 2026 in Strasbourg. Its value is over EUR 190 billion. During negotiations with the EU Council (member states), the European Parliament supported increasing funds to support, among others, for scientific research, cross-border infrastructure and border management.
– As the Polish delegation in the ECR group, we voted against it because it is a continuation budget. A continuation of the very bad trends that we have been observing in the activities of the European Commission for years. First of all, the budget for the continuation of the Green Deal, which is murdering the European economy. When we read dramatic appeals from, for example, the steel industry that it is not profitable to produce steel in Europe and subsequent steelworks are going bankrupt, these appeals are the result of the disastrous Green Deal policy pursued by the European Commission, Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen, both in the previous term and, unfortunately, continued in this term, Bielan said at the conference.
MEP Bogdan Rzońca (PiS) emphasized at the conference that his party voted against because the draft budget is not an answer to the challenges the EU is facing.
– I would even say quite harshly that the reality that is crackling outside the window is ignored by the 2026 budget. There will be no positive changes in the budget of European Union countries, there will be no real aid that European Union countries are waiting for, he said. As he added, the budget includes, among others: funds for subsidies for farmers were reduced and shifted to the promotion of agriculture, which is a mistake.
He assessed that it was a “bureaucratic budget, not a breakthrough.” – There is a problem with the economy, with high energy prices, there is a problem with dismissed workers, there is a problem with agriculture, and the budget, or the majority that votes for the budget, says that everything is OK, we continue, he said.
The EP-Council agreement on the EU budget achieved a total of EUR 372.7 million more than the Commission had originally forecast. These funds are intended to support competitiveness, security and response to growing geopolitical and defense challenges.
The budget was adopted in the European Parliament on Thursday with 419 votes to 185 and 53 abstentions. In their speeches, negotiators emphasized that the budget is intended to strengthen the security and stability of Europe, support youth development, scientific research and climate action, and respond to geopolitical challenges. The main rapporteur for the EU budget for 2026 was MEP Andrzej Halicki (KO).
