Poland and ESA sign a letter of intent. A new space center will be built


Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański, head of the Polish delegation at the ESA Ministerial Council in Bremen, emphasized the importance of the signed document.

“Today's letter of intent is the first step towards the construction of this center, which will complement the existing ESA centers.” – he said.
As he noted, the planned center in Poland is to be international in nature and operate for the benefit of all Agency member states.
“Poland attaches the highest importance to enhancing Europe's capabilities to deal with various challenges in and from space. (…) We reaffirm our commitment to be a partner when it comes to a European approach to space, security and resilience.”
The minister also announced that after starting conceptual work, a coordination team will be established responsible for further activities.
“Let today's signatures be a clear expression of our common ambition to increase Europe's presence in space, security and resilience.”

Poland increases its contribution to ESA – EUR 550 million for future missions and technologies
In parallel with signing the letter of intent, Poland announced a new, record-breaking financial declaration for ESA optional programs. According to the Ministry of Development and Technology, Warsaw has declared a total of nearly EUR 550 million for the years 2026–2028.
The funds will be allocated, among others, to: for Earth observation, space transport, development of orbital technologies, communication systems and space security and robotic exploration programs.
Minister Domański emphasized the strategic dimension of the financial commitment:
“In this way, we become a strategic partner in ESA and strengthen our position as a technological leader in Central and Eastern Europe.”
According to the Ministry of Energy and Technology, these investments are intended to accelerate the development of the Polish space sector and increase the participation of Polish companies in European missions and technological projects.
