Atletico Madrid – Inter, a match for the 5th stage of the Champions League, is played on Wednesday, from 22:00. The match will be liveTEXT on GSP.ro
The Romanian technician is confident that the team he leads will recover quickly after the defeat in the derby with Milan at the weekend, score 0-1. The coach hopes that the Nerazzurri will continue their positive run in this competition, where they have recorded four wins from four matches so far.
Cristi Chivu, optimistic before the match with Atletico Madrid
“We have always stood up and I expect the same thing to happen after the derby. There is an important match coming up, just like the one on Sunday, against a strong opponent. It is a Champions League game and we have to continue our positive course in the competition,” said Chivu, quoted by sportal.bg.
The Romanian was concerned that Inter looked vulnerable on the counter-attack, given that is the main strength of both Milan and Wednesday's opponents Atletico Madrid.
“I expect a similar approach to what we saw on Sunday. They will rely on organisation, counter-attacking and quality. We need to be positive, impose our style of play, apply the right preventive pressure and move the ball faster than on Sunday. We also need to be more effective in front of goal.” added the Romanian.
After a costly error in Milan's goal, there were question marks surrounding goalkeeper Yann Sommer whether he would keep his place or receive a break.
“I have to defend my players. I have 22 very talented footballers at my disposal and they all deserve to represent Inter. Anyone can wonder if he will be a starter or come off the bench. I recently read about Mikel Arteta's philosophy that there are players who start matches and others who finish them. However, the goalkeeper's role is different. Pepo Martinez will get his chances and his time will come when he feels ready after a difficult time,” Chivu added.
Martinez has not played since last month, when he was involved in a road accident that resulted in the death of one person.
