The Brasov rescuers used a Black Hawk helicopter of the General Aviation Inspectorate on Wednesday, for the first time, so that the intervention teams that have been searching for a young man missing since Sunday in the Șigăneşti area, from Bucegi, could be quickly taken to the hard-to-reach parts of the massif, writes News.ro. Although they used all available technical means, including a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera, the young man who had asked for help because he was exhausted and hypothermic was not found until this moment.

Salvamont Braşov announced that the search operations in the ţigăneşti area, Bucegi Mountains, continued on Wednesday to locate the young man who disappeared during Sunday evening.

For the first time in a mountain rescue mission, a Black Hawk helicopter of the IGAv – MAI was used for the rapid transport and insertion of the intervention teams directly in the hard-to-reach areas of the massif, the cited source states.

The action was attended by mountain rescuers from Salvamont Braşov, Predeal, Râşnov, Victoria, Bran, Zărneşti and Prahova formations, together with mountain gendarmes from IJJ Braşov and a specialized canine team from Salvamont Prahova.

In the last three days, mountain rescue teams have worked continuously, using all available technical means such as the RECCO rescue device and a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera, aimed at improving the coverage of areas inaccessible on the ground.

The rescuers say that the intervention is very difficult due to the unfavorable weather conditions and the difficult terrain.

“Soundings have been carried out at several points, but the snow layer remains extremely unstable, with massive accumulations and extended slabs of snow that can give way at any time. Up to this moment, no additional elements have been identified that would lead to the location of the missing person, and the mission continues depending on the evolution of the weather conditions and the safety of the teams in the field”, mentions Salvamont Braşov.

On Sunday evening, a young man in an advanced state of exhaustion and hypothermia asked for help from mountain rescuers, who searched for him all night, but to no avail. The searches continued in the following days, also without success. Instead, the mountain rescuers discovered a backpack with equipment in the area indicated by the tourist, which was handed over to the Police.
