Everton's manager, David Moyes, commented on the incident during the match against Manchester United (1-0), when one of his players slapped a teammate.

Idrissa Gueye was shown a red card for slapping team-mate Michael Keane, but the pair's manager David Moyes has no problem. Even though Everton had to deal with being outnumbered from the 10th minute, Moyes said he likes it when his players fight!

David Moyes: “We've all been footballers, sometimes we get mad at our teammates”

“I expected the referee to wait a bit longer and look at what happened. But I was told the rules of the game are if you hit your own player you could be in trouble.

But there is another side to things. I like my players fighting with each other, arguing if one of them didn't do their job right. If you want that tenacity and resilience to pay off, you want someone to act on it.

I'm disappointed that we've had a player removed. We've all been footballers, sometimes we get mad at our teammates”, commented the Scottish manager.

Gueye and Keane had argued after a defensive error and the former lost his temper and slapped the other across the face. Remarkably, despite trailing, Everton took the lead in the 29th minute through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and eventually won 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Moyes wanted to state in front of the cameras that Idrissa Gueye apologized in front of the whole team in the dressing room: “He thanked his teammates for the effort they put in after he was sent off and apologized for what happened.”

Idrissa Gueye also apologized on social media

Gueye also posted a message on Instagram. “I want to apologize first to my team-mate Michael Keane. I take full responsibility for my reaction. I also apologize to my team-mates, staff, fans and the club.

What happened does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for. Emotions may arise, but nothing justifies such behavior. I will make sure it never happens again,” the Everton player wrote.
