Domenico Morfeo, the former playmaker of Atalanta, told an interesting incident from the past. The former footballer, who currently manages a restaurant in Parma, recalled the year 1997 when Filippo Inzaghi triumphed as Serie A's top scorer, surpassing Vincenzo Montella, Roberto Mancini, George Weah, and other players playing in Italy. As thanks for helping him become a top scorer, Inzaghi rewarded him with 3,000 dollars.
The whole incident was told in an interview given to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Morfeo: “Inzaghi was a bit stingy”
Domenico Morfeo recounted an episode from the time when both players played for Atalanta. Before the last leg of Serie A Filippo Inzaghi was in direct battle with Vincenzo Montella for the top scorer title. Inzaghi scored a double in the match with Reggiana and became top scorer with 24 goals, 2 more than Montella.
Morfeo was paid $3,000 for helping Inzaghi become a goalscorer.
At Atalanta it was hard to see Pippo Inzaghi spending money. Let's just say he was a little stingy. I was in Reggio, before the last game of the season, and he told me that if I helped him become a goalscorer, he would give me five million lire (no – about $3000 at the then exchange rate). He scored two goals and wrote my check right in the locker room. I took the whole team to dinner with this money, I was always generous.

He admitted that he would have liked to be more serious in his football career.
“I think I had the qualities to be a starter in the Italian national team, but I didn't have the right mentality. I wasn't always professional. If I had a different mentality, who knows where I would have ended up. I didn't like competing or training. Today I'm in the restaurant business and that brings me happiness, life doesn't end with football. I'm aware that at Inter I could have done more. I upset Moratti, everyone they expected a lot from me. What I see in football today disgusts me. I wouldn't go back to this world. I find it fake,” Domenico Morfeo revealed.
