“Best ever” meeting on ending the war in Ukraine

On Sunday in Geneva, the Ukrainian delegation met with the national security advisers of France, Germany and Great Britain and with the United States delegation regarding the peace plan. The atmosphere during the meeting, according to Axios, was tense.

After the talks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the head of the Ukrainian president's office, Andriy Yermak, said that it was the best meeting so far on ending the war in Ukraine, and both teams are working on changes to the US peace proposal.

The possible content of a European counter-proposal of the peace plan also emerged. — All issues related to Europe and NATO were removed from the original peace plan for Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Monday.

The Kremlin did not receive information after the talks in Geneva?

The Kremlin spokesman spoke about the meeting in Geneva and the new version of the peace plan. Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Russia is closely monitoring all reports, but he will not discuss the details of any project through the media.

— We have read the statements following the discussions that took place in Geneva. Some changes have been made to the text of the peace plan that we saw earlier. However, the Kremlin has not yet received any official information. We'll wait. Apparently the dialogue is ongoing and some contacts will continue — a Kremlin spokesman told Russian media.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated on social media that “the 28-point peace plan is a great chance to end the war in Ukraine.” He added that “despite this, some Western European leaders are trying to block him.”

Donald Trump: Don't believe it until you see it

Donald Trump also commented on the progress in the peace talks. “Is it really possible that so much progress has been achieved in the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine? Don't believe it until you see it, but maybe something good is happening,” he wrote.

Meeting in Angola. Donald Tusk: some of these proposals are unacceptable

Meanwhile, a special meeting of European Union leaders took place in Angola on Monday regarding the American peace plan for Ukraine. After the talks, Prime Minister Donald Tusk spoke.

— There is full agreement on the European side that the 28 points presented several dozen hours ago need to be worked on. Some of these proposals are unacceptable. From the Polish point of view, it is particularly important that no agreement in any way weakens Poland, Europe and our security, Tusk said, also emphasizing, among other things, that “no conditions can favor the enemy.”

The Prime Minister also referred to one of the proposals regarding stationing European or NATO fighters on Polish territory. One journalist pointed out that this could work to Russia's advantage. — If only fighters are listed there, then perhaps Russia would require the withdrawal of land forces from NATO's eastern flank, the journalist said. — You've hit the nail on the head. Everything indicates that this point is the Russian point of view. It is manipulation or some kind of trap. No one will get caught up in this. We can assume that this point no longer exists – Tusk assured.

At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski held telephone conversations with the heads of diplomacy of Ukraine, Germany, France and Great Britain, as well as Finland and Italy.

European leaders after their meeting in Angola

— It's a tedious process. At most, it will be possible to make only minor progress this week, said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz after the meeting in Angola. He also said that Trump informed him that he was open to working on a peace plan developed together with European countries.

— And this is exactly what representatives of Ukraine, the United States and European Union member states achieved yesterday in Geneva, he emphasized, adding that the next step “must be for Russia to come to the negotiating table.”

Meanwhile, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the meeting confirmed the EU's united attitude in supporting Kiev. She added that on Tuesday there will be a meeting of the coalition of those willing to discuss peace talks.

— Effective and coordinated European engagement, as well as a strong European presence in Geneva, have allowed us to make significant progress in the negotiations for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. Although there is still much to be done, there is now a solid basis for further action, said the head of the European Commission.
