Fines of 275,000 lei after the illegal cutting of trees at an address in Sector 3, announces the public administrator of the Capital. “A firm signal”

The public administrator of the Capital, Lucian Judele, announced that the perpetrators of the illegal cutting of trees at bd. Nicolae Grigorescu 18 from Sector 3 received fines in the total amount of 245,000 lei, to which “another 30,000 lei will be added, for which the sanction report is to be issued”.

The official described the sanctions as “a strong signal” against illegal logging.

“After many years, this is a firm signal that the Bucharest City Hall is sending regarding the protection of trees and the sanctioning of those who can afford to cut them down without a permit,” Lucian Judele said, on Monday, in a post on Facebook.

He said that “protecting green spaces is not a fad” and “is not negotiable” but “is an obligation”.

“The contravention sanction may be debatable in the case of minor acts, but when we talk about repeated illegal cuttings in Sector 3, it is no longer a matter of negligence – we are already talking about behavior similar to a crime and it deserves to be punished as such. I hope that the law initiated by Minister Diana Buzoianu will be voted on and come into force as soon as possible,” added Lucian Judele, referring to a draft ordinance that the Minister of the Environment said would “clearly establish that the abusive cutting of trees in urban green spaces is a criminal act”.

The public administrator claims that “Bucharest is no longer the playground of those who cut down trees as they please”.

“Whoever destroys the greenery of the city, pays. And this time we hope he will pay with years in prison, just as we pay with days of our lives, with every tree that disappears from the Capital”, concluded Lucian Judele.
