CFR Cluj categorically defeated Rapid, score 3-0, in the derby of the 17th stage of the Superliga. After a balanced first half, the Giulești team completely collapsed in the second half, conceding three goals that outlined the most drastic failure of the season for Gâlcă's team.
Andrei Cordea (48', 71') and Meriton Korenica (77') brought the second consecutive victory for CFR Cluj.
For Daniel Pancu (48 years old), the former great striker of Rapid and the new coach of Transylvania, it is the second consecutive success on the CFR bench, after the 1-0 victory against Unirii Slobozia.
Răzvan Onea, reaction after the defeat with CFR: “A cold shower. Score too high!”
At the end of the game, the fullback of Rapid, Răzvan Onea (27 years old), spoke openly about the evolution of the team:
“It was a bad game for us, we lost 3-0. It's a cold shower, we have to keep our heads up, because in five days we have a game.
The score is too high for what was on the field. We apologize to the fans, they stood in the cold for us.
It was a poor game and we hope it doesn't happen again.”
About the series of modest performances against the CFR, Onea continued:
“We were not good today. If I had done the right thing on the field, the result would certainly have been different.
The key is a lot of work in the future, to fix the mistakes and in five days to get our revenge in front of the fans and beat Miercurea Ciuc.”
Asked about the large number of rapidist supporters present in Gruia, the defender confessed:
“Our supporters come all over the country for us and they are the most beautiful supporters in the country for a reason.”
What's next for CFR Cluj and Rapid
CFR Cluj will play away, in Mioveni, against FC Argeș, in an important match for the play-off fight.
Following this success, Transylvania climbed to 11th place, approaching 7 points from the top 6.
Rapid remains in 1st place, with 35 points, but risks being equaled in the standings by FC Botoșani in the event of a success for the Moldovans against Dinamo. Giulești will receive the visit of Csikszereda in the next stage.
