The Mayor of Krakow announced an immediate suspension and then initiation of disciplinary proceedings against the principal of the XLIV Secondary School, who – according to media reports – arranged a student's appointment with a hairdresser without the parents' consent and ordered him to shave his head during the break.

“Gazeta Wyborcza” wrote about the case on Wednesday. According to the information quoted, the director of the XLIV High School in Krakow did not accept the underage student's hairstyle (shaved sides and short hair on the top of the head). He called the hairdressing salon closest to the school and made an appointment for the boy. He told the student he was not to return to school until he shaved his head. Neither he nor the student's teacher involved in the story (she was the one who sent him to the principal to have his hairstyle assessed) considered it appropriate to contact his parents, reports “GW”.

Complaint to the school board

According to the author of the article, after long consideration (the incident took place in October), the parents wrote a complaint to the school board. The school board has already prepared a letter to the mayor of Krakow, Aleksander Miszalski, in which he requests the suspension of the director from his duties until the matter is clarified.

On Wednesday afternoon, the mayor of Krakow, Aleksander Miszalski, commented on the matter. “I am outraged and shocked by the behavior of the director of XLIV High School in Krakow. There is no consent for students' rights to be violated, for their goods and safety to be violated, or for discrimination or humiliation for any reason,” he wrote on his social media profile.

The director will be suspended

The Mayor of Krakow announced that he was waiting for the school board's request to suspend the principal from performing his duties as school principal. “As soon as such a request is received, the director will be suspended immediately, in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Code. Then, disciplinary proceedings will begin,” Miszalski said.

The president pointed out that “the school is not the principal's private farm.” “He has repeatedly crossed boundaries by practicing indoctrination at school, calling on parents of students who do not participate in religious education or organizing political appeals. Krakow schools are and will be places where all children's rights are respected without exception,” Miszalski noted. (PAP)
