The moment when two women steal from a Romanian supermarket in the UK. “A frozen duck and two beef belly casseroles”

The owners of a Romanian store in Northampton, Romanians from Cluj, made public the images of two women who left with “a frozen duck and two frozen beef belly casseroles” from their store without paying.

Two women were caught on CCTV from Romanian Livada Store in Northampton stealing “a frozen duck and two frozen beef belly casseroles”.

The owners of the supermarket, Loredana Ramona Țuț and Ramona Cosmina Barz, two sisters-in-law originally from Cluj-Napoca, who in 2023 took over the former Transilvania store and transformed it into a space known and appreciated by the Romanian community in Northampton, say that it is the first time they have gone through such a situation.

“We experienced a moment that deeply saddened us. Two people took products from our store without paying for them. We are surprised and disappointed, especially because we have always tried to be close to every Romanian who crosses our threshold. If they told us they were poor and had no money, we gave them to them for free, without having to steal…”, they told UK Announcement.

“Throughout the more than two years of operation, we have provided help, food and support to all those who needed it. We have supported schools, community events and local organizations. We have done it every time with an open heart, out of respect and love for our community. That is precisely why it is difficult to see such gestures”, they also said.

The two Romanian women wanted to explain that the purpose of publishing the images of the thieves was not to punish, but to send a message to the Romanian community in Northampton.

“We didn't make the public images to punish anyone, but as a cry of pain and a plea: let's take care of each other, let's be fair and don't forget that we are far from home. We thank from the bottom of our hearts everyone who stands by us, respects our work and gives us their trust every day. The community is all of us and only together we can build a better place“, they appealed to those who step on the threshold of their store.
