Although Benfica secured an emotionless qualification for the next round of the Portuguese Cup, 2-0 at Atletico CP (third division), Jose Mourinho had harsh reactions to his players.

The Portuguese coach lashed out at the end, blaming his students' lack of attitude and the fact that they did not follow the established tactical plan.

Jose Mourinho, angry at Benfica: “Four changes at half-time, but I should have made nine!”

Upset with the way Benfica approached the first half, Mourinho didn't think twice and made no less than four changes at half-time.

However, the technician claims that the actual number of those worth replacing was much higher:

“At halftime I made four changes, but the truth is that I should have changed nine.

Only two players deserved to stay on the field“, said the 62-year-old coach.

“I don't like those who betray me”

Mourinho continued the series of sharp statements, emphasizing that the problems are not related to the team's strategy, but to the involvement and discipline of some footballers:

“The system is good. The problem comes when the players in it don't work.

I don't like people who betray me“, pointed out the Portuguese, visibly irritated.

Benfica eliminated a team from the third division

Although the team from Lisbon won 2-0, the difference in value was huge. Mourinho's side are valued at €357m according to Transfermarkt, while Atletico CP have no market value.

The goals were scored by Richard Rios and Vangelis Pavlidis (penalty).

Huge pressure on Mourinho ahead of “League” duel with Ajax

The technician appointed in September, after parting with Fenerbahce, is not going through a quiet period.

Benfica have lost all four of their Champions League group games and are in penultimate place.

The next test for the Lusitanians is Tuesday's trip to Ajax, where Mourinho is in desperate need of a positive result.
