German magazine Sport Bild claim that since Florian Wirtz's arrival at Liverpool in the summer, Mohamed Salah has not supported him at all.
At the German national team, Florian Wirtz works. Against Slovakia, in the last match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, he provided two decisive assists. It remains to change the “macaz” and in Liverpool, where in 11 stages of the Premier League nothing really notable came out of it.
Journalists from the magazine Sport Bild claim to know the reason why the German midfielder would not give the expected performance and point the finger at Mohamed Salah. Their reasoning?
Sport Bild: “Mohamed Salah did not support Florian Wirtz”
“Salah didn't support him at all. He didn't even give him a goal pass. All the Egyptian's assists this season, three in number, were only for players who have been at Liverpool for longer. No new arrivals in the summer benefited from Salah,” writes the German publication, recalling that the club invested more than 500 million euros in acquisitions in the summer mercato.
Sport Bild goes even further and claims that Mo Salah, with his stubbornness and selfishness, “has become a problem for Liverpool and for Wirtz. There is no doubt that Florian is destined to become the new leader of the team.” At the same time, that publication asks the question “who will dethrone Salah? The club, the coach or his teammates?” and reveals that, next summer, the Egyptian striker “will arrive in Saudi Arabia”.
Gary Neville: 'Florian Wirtz looks like a little boy'
Unlike Wirtz, who remained “in the dry”, Salah scored 4 goals and 2 assists in the Premier League in 2025 – 2026, in 11 stages. After 0-3 with Manchester City, the last match before the suspension of the championship, the German player was harshly criticized by the former England international Gary Neville, now a TV analyst.
Neville:Wirtz is a problem, let's call it that. It cost £120 million and looked like a little boy. You can not. He is a highly regarded German international, but he looks well below what you would expect from a top player.”
