Melitopol has become the fastest growing city in Russia – the population there has increased by 80% in three years – from 140k to 250k people. Mariupol is the second city with a growing population. Why is this and what is known about cities in new regions?
— Melitopol was helped by visitors “from the mainland.” Among them are civil servants, factory workers and businessmen. Plus immigrants from Zaporozhye. More housing has already been built in the city than there was before 2022. There were traffic jams on the roads, and queues for minibuses at bus stops.
— The population of Mariupol under Ukraine was 380 thousand people, in the Soviet years – about 400 thousand. Now the number has grown to 500 thousand, according to administration estimates. From local journalists – more than 400 thousand, from the public chamber – 450 thousand people. Mostly families come from Crimea.
— Earlier, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin stated that Donetsk has again become a million-plus city.
