Close work between business and universities is becoming a basic condition for training the next generation of IT personnel. It allows you to quickly respond to market changes and keep contact “at your fingertips.” Veronika Elikova, director of human resources management at T1 Innotech, spoke about how to organize such work.
Today, there are an average of 18.6 resumes of junior specialists per IT vacancy. For higher-grade personnel, the competition is noticeably less: for “middles” it is 14.7, while for “seniors” it is only 3. Despite the fact that university education is the foundation without which it is impossible for any IT specialist to move on, the lack of practical skills remains a serious problem.
Therefore, Veronika Elikova believes, cooperation between companies and universities should be structured in such a way as to strengthen the practical component of training, and not replace its fundamental basis.
“When interacting with universities, T1 actively attracts its own teachers and experts who help improve curricula. The holding also conducts master classes, webinars, hackathons, lectures – everything that adds real practical value to university educational programs. In addition, we implement our IT solutions into the learning process. For example, the Sphere development platform, which allows students to work with real tools,” emphasized Veronika Elikova.
The expert also noted that the participation of IT companies in the formation of the future personnel reserve should not be limited solely to working with universities. Among the effective tools that complement the university base and help students quickly enter the profession, Veronika Elikova also highlighted internships and various educational projects.
“For example, T1 has been implementing such a practice-oriented project for the second year. This year, about 1.5 thousand students took part in it: for a month they studied remotely, for a month they worked in teams on their own cases of our holding. The finals took place in person in three regions. In the end, it was useful for both the guys and us: a fresh, uncluttered look gave excellent results. Our other educational project helps to “tune” fundamental education to real business tasks. The guys undergo training, after which we conduct tests and interviews and hire them to work at T1. As a result, such projects of IT companies help students start their career path in IT much faster,” the expert shared.
