According to Axios, such gestures are especially appreciated by the American president, who is known for his weakness for luxury gifts. In the past, both states and corporations have taken similar actions in an attempt to gain his favor.
The gifts were officially accepted on behalf of the Trump presidential library, which avoided violating US law. White House officials emphasized that this method of giving gifts is consistent with applicable regulations.

Apple, Qatar and the Olympic Committee – race for the president's attention

Earlier, Apple CEO Tim Cook presented him with an engraved glass disk on a gold base, commemorating the company's $100 billion investment in the US. In turn, the US Olympic Committee presented the president with a set of Olympic medals from the 1984 games in Los Angeles, referring to the next games planned for 2028 in this city. The government of Qatar donated a Boeing 747 jet worth $400 million. Many corporations and private individuals also supported the construction of a giant ballroom at the White House, earmarking a total of approximately $300 million for this purpose.
Despite the competition, it was the gift from Apple that was considered Trump's favorite gift – until the Swiss appeared. One administration official admitted in an interview with Axios: “It was difficult to beat Apple, but the Swiss managed to do it.”

The success of Swiss diplomacy
The Swiss initiative brought the expected results. On Friday, a trade agreement was announced under which the US reduced tariffs on goods from Switzerland from 39 to 15 percent. In return, Bern pledged to reduce trade barriers and increase investment by Swiss companies in the United States.
Jamieson Greer, the US Trade Representative, did not hide his appreciation for President Trump, emphasizing his role in the negotiations. “President Trump's unparalleled negotiations continue to deliver benefits for the American people,” he said, commenting on the agreement.
