Prime Minister Donald Tusk referred on Saturday to the illegal prison sentence of PiS activists from the Tarnów district for extorting real estate from a disabled resident of a Social Welfare Home. “It looks like a system,” Tusk commented.

“The court sentenced PiS activists from Małopolska to prison for extorting real estate from a disabled resident of a Social Welfare Home. It looks like a system. You can feel sick,” wrote the Prime Minister on the X platform.
The head of government referred to the September verdicts of the district court in Tarnów against local government officials and PiS activists from the Tarnów poviat, including the former staroste and currently deputy staroste of Tarnów, Roman Ł., and the mayor of the Szerzyna commune, Grzegorz G., and the director of the District Family Assistance Center, Anna G. The accused also included an employee of the Szerzyna Commune Office, Stefan Sz. and notary Wojciech W.
On Friday, Onet recalled the verdicts. All defendants received absolute prison sentences of 13 to 18 months. Local government officials also received high fines and were banned from holding managerial positions in local government units for several years. The verdicts are not final and the defendants have announced that they will appeal.
The case concerned the free purchase by the Szerzyny commune of a plot of land and real estate worth over PLN 200,000. PLN from Henryk W.'s charge permanently staying at the Social Welfare Home in Nowodworz. After the renovation, repatriates from Kazakhstan were to live in the building. However, the project was blocked because investigators found irregularities in the transfer of property.
Local government officials were liable in court for abuse of powers by an officer in order to obtain material or personal benefits and attempted fraud. The notary allegedly forged documents.
Moreover, Onet wrote on Friday that investigators are currently examining documents regarding the sale of several dozen plots by the District Office in Tarnów in 2021-2023. (PAP)
