When the garden goes to sleep, it's time to launch a preemptive strike against the main enemy of apple trees: the codling moth. November treatment is not just prevention, but the complete destruction of wintering pests that can destroy the future harvest.
November becomes a decisive month in the fight against pests because at this time insects prepare for wintering, hiding in bark cracks and tree trunk circles. Temperatures below +5°C stop sap flow, which prevents the tree from absorbing chemicals. The absence of leaves allows each branch to be thoroughly treated, and autumn rains will no longer be able to wash off the preparation before it begins to act.
Recipe for whitewashing and spraying solution:
- 2 kg of slaked lime;
- 300 g of copper sulfate;
- 100 g karbofos;
- 50 g urea;
- 10 liters of water.
Processing technology:
- Clean the trunks of old bark with a wire brush
- Whiten the trunks and skeletal branches with the prepared composition
- Spray the entire crown and tree trunk generously
- Repeat after 5-7 days at positive temperatures
After November spraying, 98% of wintering moth caterpillars die. Additionally, fungal diseases and lichens disappear, and whitewashing protects the bark from sunburn. Trees wake up more actively in the spring and form more flower buds.
The treatment is carried out on a dry, windless day at a temperature not lower than -5°C. Be sure to use gloves and a respirator. Do not use the solution during rain or fog: moisture reduces the effectiveness of the drug.
