Emil Gânj, the man pursued by the Romanian Police, suspected of having killed his 23-year-old ex-partner in July and setting fire to the house in Mureș, has not been found even now by the authorities.
Arrested in absentia, the man is placed under general investigation. The prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Mureş Court announced on October 16 that they had sent the defendant to court, in a state of preventive arrest and in absentia, investigated for qualified murder, (with premeditation and by a person who had previously committed a crime of murder), destruction, desecration of corpses, domestic violence, and violation of the measures ordered by the protection order.
The administered evidence revealed that on July 8, 2025, around 8:50 a.m., Emil Gânj, a person previously definitively convicted of murder, violating the protection order that had previously been issued in his name and in favor of the victim, Anda Gyurca, premeditated the act, arming himself with an ax and going to the victim's home. There, he destroyed several windows and the entrance door, entered the house illegally and hit the victim in the head with the ax several times, causing her death.
Later, the man sprinkled the victim's body with a flammable substance and set it on fire. The fire spread to other goods in the premises of the building with the risk of spreading to other goods in the respective yard and to the neighboring building, the prosecutors stated.
Recorder published images with a strong emotional impact from the day Emil Gânj came upon Anda in the house, which capture the last moments of the young woman's life.
“Anda Gyurca died, in the eyes of the world and the authorities, killed by Emil Gânj, a recidivist with whom the law was always lenient. Although he beat her, threatened her, kidnapped her and abused her repeatedly, the man always managed to escape the consequences of his actions”, notes the investigative publication that wanted to draw attention to a phenomenon that it considers neglected by the authorities Romanian.
The murder in Mureș and the “failures of the authorities”: Anda was disfigured in February 2024, kidnapped in February 2025, and the “mobile team” came in June 2025 to ask her what she was doing
Wanted by impressive forces
The alleged criminal was searched for weeks by impressive police forces, but he has not been found even to this day.
So far, several of his close relatives have been heard and there have been several revelations to his relatives or friends.
In the summer, the Police even announced that they are offering a reward of 5,000 euros for those who provide information that will lead to the capture of Gânj, but the officers were sometimes put on false leads.
“The father of Anda Gyurca, the victim killed and set on fire by Emil Gânj, months away from the crime and also from the moment when the police failed to catch the dangerous criminal, sounds an alarm about how the state doesn't even want to catch Gânj,” said the lawyer of the victim's family, Adrian Cuculis.
The victim's father stated that there are no posters in the North Station looking for the suspect in the case of the murder in Mureș, Emil Gânj.
Cuculis stated for HotNews that he submitted a request for relocation to the Mureș Court “considering the possible relations or relatives of Gânj in the law enforcement agencies of the county”.
Emil Gânj, 37 years old, is known as a violent person, has records of violence in the family and served prison time for murder, being released over five years ago, ahead of schedule. He was convicted of killing a man.
