Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the situation in the Middle East by phone on Saturday, including developments in Gaza, Iran's nuclear program and the situation in Syria, the Kremlin said.
According to the Israeli statement cited by the Times of Israel, it was Putin who initiated the telephone conversation with Netanyahu.
The discussion is the latest in a series of talks held recently, the office of the Israeli prime minister said.
On Thursday, Russia proposed its own draft resolution in the UN Security Council on Gaza, countering the United States' push to gain support for the text that would approve President Donald Trump's plan.
The American draft UN resolution, modified several times, provides for the granting of a mandate, until the end of 2027, to a “Peace Committee” to be chaired by Donald Trump, a body of “transitional government” in the administration of the Gaza Strip, AFP explained, according to News.ro.
He also “authorizes” the deployment of an “International Stabilization Force”.
The Russian project limits itself, without naming Trump, to hailing “the initiative that led to the armistice”, without mentioning the “Peace Committee” and without authorizing any international force.
The Russians ask UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to “identify options for implementing the provisions” of the Peace Plan and to “rapidly” present a report that includes “options for the deployment of an International Stabilization Force” in the Gaza Strip.
