In Krasnoyarsk, a 73-year-old pensioner gave 3.2 million rubles to scammers, fearing accusations of assisting terrorists, the prosecutor’s office said.

At the end of October, the man received a call from a woman who introduced herself as an employee of the department for combating economic crimes. She stated that there was a leak. Because of this, funds were transferred from the pensioner’s card to an unfriendly country, so he may be accused of aiding terrorism.

“Succumbing to panic, the man obeyed the instructions of the scammers. Next, he was contacted by another attacker who introduced himself as an employee of Rosfinmonitoring. Through a popular messenger, he coordinated the actions of the pensioner, finding out the size of his savings. Under the pretext of “checking banknotes and declaring them for the period of investigation,” the fraudster convinced the pensioner to withdraw all his savings,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The supervisory agency noted that the attackers warned the pensioner: he must remain silent about the case under the threat of a criminal case, and the bank employees must be told that the money is needed to buy a car. In two banks, where the pensioner was actually warned that he could be deceived, but he insisted on his own.

In November, the pensioner, on the instructions of the “curator,” handed over both packages of money to the courier. In exchange, he received “applications for declaration of funds.”

“I lost my vigilance, as the scammers’ speech was very competent and convincing. I was afraid that I would be charged with promoting terrorism,” the victim explained.

The deception was revealed when the pensioner’s son, noticing his father’s strange behavior, turned to law enforcement for help. The amount of damage amounted to 3.2 million rubles. A criminal case was opened for fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). million rubles.

The clearance rate for these crimes is 26.4% (1,385 crimes were solved). 680 criminal cases were sent to the regional courts.
