The staff layoffs from Bitdefender will also affect the Business Solutions division in Romania, according to the clarifications made by the Romanian cyber security company for StartupCafe.ro.
The staff reductions target around 140 Bitdefender employees globally.
“Less than 7% of Bitdefender's approximately 2,070 employees globally are affected,” the company said.
In Romania, 125 employees of the Business Solutions Group (BSG) division are targeted by the measure.
“The most changes took place within the Business Solutions Group (BSG) division in Romania (125) and North America,” said Bitdefender.
“Romania is a central pillar”
The company claims that Romania remains “a central pillar” of its global operations in the area of research and development, but that it has “recently re-prioritized certain projects to better focus its efforts and ensure long-term sustainable growth”.
Bitdefender says the decisions “were carefully evaluated to align resources with strategic priorities and areas where the company can bring the most value to its customers and partners.”
“Romania is a central pillar of the company's global research and development operations, where hundreds of the organization's most talented engineers work in the five research and development centers in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Timișoara and Târgu Mureș,” Bitdefender also stated.
“A step towards modernization”
The firm explained that this is not “a short-term cost-cutting measure”, but “a step towards modernization that aligns Bitdefender's people and initiatives with the direction in which the cyber security market is evolving”.
“Bitdefender is a profitable and continuously growing company. The decision was taken from a position of stability, with the aim of maintaining its long-term competitiveness. Bitdefender has chosen to act proactively, in a planned and strategic way. The company will continue to selectively recruit in strategic areas with high growth potential, which support the company's long-term objectives,” Bitdefender also told StartupCafe.ro.
