General Bart Verbist, Belgium's defense attaché in Washington, resigned under US pressure; This decision follows an article in which he described President Donald Trump's policy as “characterized by chaos and unpredictability,” the Belga agency reported, citing the De Morgen daily.

According to several sources – as reported by Belga – Verbist resigned this week after losing the confidence of the Pentagon.
These comments appeared in an article for the Belgian Military Journal, the monthly magazine of the armed forces. The article has since disappeared from the magazine's website, although the newsletter still contains a short summary of the article.
“The first six months of President Trump's second term have been brutal and have undoubtedly marked the beginning of a new chapter in international relations,” the bulletin reads. “Brigadier General Bart Verbist explains in clear terms how the United States under President Trump has made a significant change of course in both domestic and foreign policy.” This new direction – as the general wrote – “is characterized mainly by chaos and unpredictability.”
According to Belga agency sources, the case has attracted the attention of the team of US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who – according to sources – is closely involved in the case.
