Sorin Grindeanu, about his connections with those involved in the Nordis scandal: The fact that we spent my free time together is a personal matter

The PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, said on Wednesday that he has nothing to hide in relation to the “Nordis” case, stressing that it is a “personal matter” that he spent certain moments of his free time with some of those involved in the scandal related to the real estate company and that he had no business connection with them.

He answered this way, asked in an interview given to the website Știrileprotv.ro if he publicly clarified all the elements that needed to be clarified in the “Nordis” business.

“I say yes. I know that at the moment there is a file, as you well know, in the works. I give everything that is asked of me, in the sense of documents. I have nothing to hide. If there is someone who thinks that I have something, they should go and file a complaint, there are state institutions. Moreover, today, in Parliament, the law was passed which has me among the initiators linked to, let's say, a better clarification of constructions, in the real estate field, The so-called “Nordis” law passed through Parliament today, and is headed for promulgation. I have no problem, I have nothing to hide,” said Sorin Grindeanu, according to Agerpres

In the context, the leader of the Social Democrats was also asked if he has any regrets about spending his free time with certain people who participated in the “Nordis” deal.

“We didn't do business together, I don't do business together. We didn't have discussions related to possible business, and so on, never. I have nothing to complain about since we didn't do these things, and the fact that we spent our time together, our free time, that's a personal matter, but we didn't do business and things that would collide with state laws. I told you what I had to say, more than that, I told you that today, to close this topic as well, this law was voted “Nordis” in Parliament”, he said.

“I have not run afoul of the law, if there is anyone, not just to hint, if you have any matter where you say that I have run afoul of the law, please go and make complaints, or anyone. But since there is nothing, I have not had any business, I have not come into such matters, and possibly sometimes I have spent my free time with some of them, I cannot ask my acquaintances, tell them every time: what business do you do, with what you are busy, do illegal things or not. Everyone is responsible for what they do, I am responsible for what I do, not for what others do,” Grindeanu said.

The Nordis law, submitted after the scandal related to the Nordis real estate company and the flights with this company of some important PSD politicians broke out in the public space, was adopted on Wednesday by the Chamber of Deputies. There were 301 votes “for”, out of a total of 301 deputies present. If it will not be contested at the Constitutional Court, then the law will go to President Nicușor Dan for promulgation.

The law has nothing to do with the case in which the heads of Nordis are being investigated, but was made to protect future buyers.

On October 7, 2024, the Recorder published an investigation entitled “The Nordis scheme: The money-making machine of the most powerful political-property clan”. The journalists showed that, although millions of euros went into the company controlled by businessman Vladimir Ciorbă, the husband of Laura Vicol, the former head of the Legal Commission in the Chamber of Deputies, most of the promised investments were not realized. And in the only building erected, a hotel in Mamaia, there were “solid indications” that the apartments were sold several times, to several people.

On November 18 last year, G4Media wrote how the presidential candidate at the time Marcel Ciolacu and other PSD leaders, including Sorin Grindeanu (the current president of the Social Democrats) and Alfred Simonis, flew on a private plane rented from the same Nordis group, together with the Vicol-Ciorbă spouses.
