Migration pact and Poland's opposition. Warsaw demands exclusion from the EU mechanism

The Ministry of Internal Affairs, through spokeswoman Karolina Gałecka, informed about the submission of the application, which is intended to protect the country from having to participate in the EU migrant relocation mechanism in the coming year. The European Commission has already indicated that Poland, along with Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Croatia and Austria, is struggling with a serious influx of migrants and may apply for full or partial exemption from this obligation.
Minister Marcin Kierwiński, quoted in the statement of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, noted that Poland has long been opposed to relocation mechanisms. He emphasized that the country incurs huge expenses related to the protection of the European Union's borders and has also accepted war refugees from Ukraine. Kierwiński added that the European Commission's decision to enable the submission of such applications may provide protection for longer than just one year.

The migration pact is controversial across Europe
Poland, like other countries mentioned by the European Commission, is struggling with growing migration pressure. The authorities in Warsaw emphasize that the decision to submit the application is consistent with the government's previous declarations and is aimed at securing the country's interests in the face of EU regulations. The submitted application is awaiting consideration by the European Commission.
