At the Krasnoyarsk HPP, preparations for the planned overhaul of hydraulic unit No. 3 are in full swing. In addition to the main work, the hydraulic turbine impeller will be replaced and the power transformer will be replaced.
The new transformer will improve the reliability and quality of power supply to consumers. This is an important element of electricity generation, which the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station supplies to the country’s unified energy system. It increases the voltage to reduce losses when transmitting electricity over long distances. This is the seventh transformer manufactured to a special order of the En+ company, as part of the implementation of the “New Energy” comprehensive modernization program for Siberian hydroelectric power plants. And it will be put into operation together with hydraulic unit No. 3 when its overhaul is completed.
Assembly, testing and preliminary configuration of the transformer took about three months; more than 30 specialists from different departments of the Krasnoyarsk HPP were involved in the work.

New 220 kV power transformer made in Russia. Its transportation was unique, since the transformer itself is an oversized cargo. It was delivered to Divnogorsk by rail, and then on a special platform it was brought to the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station.
The mass of the new transformer is more than 300 tons, height is 4 meters, power is 630 MVA. The delivery itself is already a large-scale event.
In addition to design features, the new transformer is equipped with a modern equipment monitoring system. Thanks to this, HPP specialists can monitor the parameters of the transformer, and therefore promptly identify and eliminate defects in the operation of the equipment.
Before installing a new transformer, the current conductors will be reconstructed, since the connection diagram of the old transformer and the new one has differences. In addition, 220 kV surge suppressors protecting expensive equipment will be replaced, and the cooling system will be completely reconstructed.
“Timely replacement and modernization of equipment is important for any enterprise, and even more so for an enterprise in the energy industry. First of all, this is to ensure the reliability and safety of the energy system of the entire state,” said Stanislav Legenza, director of the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Plant.
