Toni Petrea (50 years old) will be the new secondary coach of the University of Craiova and will join the team on the technical bench alongside the Portuguese “principal” Filipe Coelho (45 years old), appointed on Tuesday evening, after Mirel Rădoi decided to leave the team from Bănie.

GSP announced on Tuesday that Toni Petrea was the favorite to takes over the second division Politehnica Iași, in the context in which Tony Da Silva is to be dismissed from the formation from Copou. Petrea was turned away by Mihai Rotaru, who decided to call him “second” in Craiova, revealed fanatik.ro.

Laurentiu Reghecampf's former assistant last worked at Daco Getica Bucharest, as technical director, from where he left in the summer of 2025. As “principal”, Petrea twice trained FCSB, but also Chindia Târgoviște and U Cluj.

Mihai Rotaru announced on Tuesday evening, when he spoke about the new technician, that there will be more surprises in his staff.

One of them is bringing him Tony Petreaa coach who from the interim position won the Romanian Cup with FCSB in 2020, and then as the head coach lost two championships at the limit, in 2021 and 2023.

Before being the head coach of the red-blue team, Toni Petrea was Laurentiu Reghecampf's assistant at FCSB, in the periods 2012-2014 and 2015-2017.

Toni Petrea's last adventure on the bench, in the position of “principal”, was at Cluj University, between June and August 2023, when he prepared the team for 6 stages, where he had an average of 1 point/match.

His highest point average as a coach in a season came in 2021-2022, 2.04 points/game in 28 games.

From the latest information, it is expected that Toni Petrea will be presented at the press conference at 12:00, organized in Bănie.

What Toni Petrea was saying a few days ago

There were some discussions, but at the moment nothing has materialized. We were not on the same wavelength. As a technician, given that there are few teams at the level of the first two leagues and many coaches, it is quite difficult to find a team where you can work. There are various situations and each formation makes its own strategy. The CV is not enough, it also depends on circumstances.

Maybe the planets just haven't aligned for me yet. I want to train, it's the job I started. In football you can't decide when you go back into the circuit. You are not like an engineer to submit your resume and get hired. It's a different process. I am looking for a project that will attract me and give it a go.

There were some gropings from abroad as well, but I don't know at the moment if I could take this step. I would opt more for a variant in the country. It's about the family, I want to stay close to it, I can't see myself going to I don't know what countries. I have small children, they are at school and I have to take care of them. Little supervision is required

In addition to Toni Petrea, the Portuguese Coelho will have at least one more Romanian. On Tuesday evening, the head of Olten announced the first move with the arrival of the new technician: the goalkeeping coach Daniel Tudor (51 years old) returns to the University.

He returns to Craiova less than half a year after leaving the south of the country. In the summer, he separated from the Olteni and reached an agreement in Russia.

Daniel Tudor came to Bănie in July 2022, after previously being at CFR Cluj and Al Ittihad, alongside Cosmin Contra, and the last time he was on Costel Gâlcă's staff in Craiova.

In January, when Rădoi returned to Craiova, he also came with another staff, and for the position of goalkeeping coach he brought Robert Tufiși, so Tudor was no longer included in the calculations, and although he remained with the team, in the summer he terminated with Olteni.
