Talks at an impasse
During the last round of talks in July, the Ukrainian side proposed an imminent meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs initially took the position that talks about a possible meeting between Putin and Zelensky would be possible only after the work of the working teams had been completed, so organizing the summit quickly would be “difficult to imagine.” More than a month later, the Kremlin announced that Putin was ready to meet Zelensky, but only in Moscow. Kyiv rejected this condition, recognizing it, among other things, too dangerous for Zelensky.
The head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sybiha, considered this proposal to be another Russian attempt to mislead the world by deliberately presenting unacceptable conditions. Ukraine rejects the Kremlin's claims that it is responsible for the impasse in the peace process.
The last meeting of representatives of Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul ended after only 40 minutes – recalled Reuters.
