The clinic in Constanța where a woman died after giving birth is still open

The private hospital in Constanța, where a 29-year-old woman died in October after giving birth, is again at the center of a scandal. The National Authority for Health Quality Management (ANMCS) has suspended the accreditation of the medical unit, according to Digi24.

Although ANMCS shows that the hospital does not offer quality medical services in accordance with the standards, the clinic is still open and operates on the basis of a sanitary operating permit issued by the Public Health Directorate (DSP) Constanța.
“The accreditation of the health facility is suspended, according to ANMCS President's Order No. 195/23.10.2025, for a maximum period of six months, during which the health facility must provide proof of remedying the deficiencies that led to the suspension of accreditation”ANMCS sent, in a reaction to Digi24.
The suspension of accreditation means that the level of quality, safety and compliance of the medical act is not officially validated by the institution that monitors hospital standards in Romania.
The private hospital had announced, two days ago, the resumption of activity and the reopening for patients, including for births, after having remedied the deficiencies noted by the Ministry of Health. However, ANMCS has not yet granted a new accreditation.
“ANMCS received an inspection report from the State Sanitary Inspection within the Ministry of Health, and one of the measures ordered is the suspension of the activity in the operating room and the ATI compartment, until it becomes legal”, it is also shown in the institution's press release.
Currently, the unit operates on the basis of the DSP authorization, an act that allows the carrying out of medical activity, but according to the report of the control body of the Ministry of Health, this authorization was issued in contradiction with the real situation on the ground.
For this reason, the director of DSP Constanța was dismissed, after she signed the document that allowed the operation of the hospital under these conditions. The former director challenged the decision in court, asking to be reinstated.
The tragedy that sparked the scandal happened at the beginning of October, when a 29-year-old woman died from complications after giving birth at this private clinic in the city of Constanța.
