Is the RTV subscription becoming a thing of the past? Who doesn't have to pay?

The obligation to register radio and television receivers results from the provisions of the Act on License Fees and the regulation of the Ministry of Digitization regarding the registration procedure for these devices. Importantly, fees for using cable television, satellite television or digital platform services do not exempt you from the need to pay an RTV license fee.
The radio and television subscription covers not only devices used at home, but also those installed in cars. This obligation applies to both individuals and enterprises.
Television or radio – penalties for failure to register
Failure to register the receiver may result in a financial penalty of 30 times the monthly subscription fee. Currently, this means PLN 819 for an unregistered TV set and PLN 261 for a radio receiver. Inspections in this area are carried out by inspectors appointed by Poczta Polska.

End of TV license fee?
The TV license fee, which dates back to the 1920s, has long been controversial and has been the subject of numerous debates in recent years.
On Thursday, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Marta Cienkowska, announced plans to abolish the radio and television license fee. During the presentation of the draft amendment to the Media Act, she emphasized that the current system of financing public media is outdated and ineffective. In return, direct support from the state budget in the amount of PLN 2.5 billion per year was proposed.
