Candidate portrait. Who is Liviu Negoiță, the former sector mayor who is running for the Capital City Hall

The former mayor of sector 3, Liviu Negoiță, announced his candidacy during a press conference, together with his colleagues from PUSL.

Liviu Negoiță is one of the significant figures of the politics of the 2000s, being the mayor of Sector 3 for two terms and even a proposal for prime minister in 2009.

Connections with the political world

Liviu Negoiță is running on behalf of the PUSL party, being president of the Bucharest organization. He was also a member of the Democratic Party (PD) and PDL, then PMP. He had two parliamentary mandates between 1996-2000 and 2000-2004, but he resigned shortly after obtaining the second mandate, becoming the mayor of Sector 3 of Bucharest between 2004 and 2012, a position for which he also obtained two mandates.

After the resignation of Prime Minister Emil Boc, in 2009, Liviu Negoiță was appointed by President Traian Băsescu for the position of Prime Minister, but he failed to form a parliamentary majority, and the cabinet he proposed was not invested.

In 2020, he joined the PMP, on whose lists he ran for a deputy position in the elections of that year. However, the party did not reach the electoral threshold. In 2023 he switched to PUSL.

He lost the District 3 City Hall in 2012, to Robert Negoiță.

In 2016, 4 years later, he was put under criminal investigation on suspicion of abuse of office, as a result of a complaint filed even by the current president Nicușor Dan.

Training and experience

Negoiță has a degree in law. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest in 1990. Then, in 1991, he entered the Bucharest Bar and practiced as a lawyer.

The legal activity would serve him in the future in the Parliament, and then in the management of the City Hall of Sector 3.

According to the declaration of assets submitted for the candidacy for the District 1 City Hall, in 2024, Negoiță had five urban plots in Balotești and one in Suceava. The document also indicated a house, an apartment and a holiday home, as well as a car, watches, jewelery and paintings worth 50,000 euros.

The same document also showed that he sold a house in Balotești for 390,000 euros. However, no significant accounts and income were presented. Most of the Negoiță family's money came from rental income, with a value of over 230,000 euros.

Chances in the race for the Capital City Hall

Despite his history and his seniority in the Bucharest administration, Liviu Negoiță is not one of the candidates rated with chances in the polls for the Capital City Hall.
