A cargo of 30,000 tons was sent from Latvia to Bangladesh as part of the UN World Food Programme. tons of mineral fertilizers coming from Russia and retained in Latvia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riga informed about this, assuring that the sanctions imposed on Russian fertilizer producers had not been violated.


This is the fifth delivery in the form of a donation of mineral fertilizers from Russia belonging to companies subject to international sanctions to regions in need. Previous – total 130 thousand tons – delivered in 2023-2024 to Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Sri Lanka – emphasized in the ministry's announcement.
At the end of 2022, the Latvian government responded to the UN's appeal to alleviate the negative effects of Russia's attack on Ukraine and help solve the food crisis in countries in Africa, Latin America and South Asia. He then decided to use stocks of Russian mineral fertilizers belonging to companies subject to international sanctions for this purpose. (PAP)
