A Russian Ka-226 helicopter crashed in the Dagestan region, killing five people, including four employees of the Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant (KEMZ), the company said on Saturday, The Kyiv Independent reports.
The helicopter crashed near a village in Dagestan, a republic within the Russian Federation located along the Caspian Sea. Russian state media initially reported that the plane was carrying tourists.
KEMZ, a Russian defense company specializing in aeronautical equipment, has released the names of the people who died in the plane crash. And among the victims are four employees of KEMZ, including the deputy general manager of the factory, in charge of construction and transport.
The flight mechanic of the Ka-226 helicopter also died in the accident. Two other people were injured.
KEMZ is on the US sanctions list for its involvement in Russia's war against Ukraine. The plant develops and manufactures ground control systems, diagnostic systems and other equipment, mainly for Sukhoi and MiG aircraft.
