Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan says, in a message sent on Sunday, on the occasion of the International Day of the Fight against Fascism and Anti-Semitism, that “hate, prejudice or discrimination should no longer be tolerated”.
“Today we mark the International Day of the Fight against Fascism and Anti-Semitism and we remember all those who lost their lives or suffered because of the atrocities and violent manifestations committed by the criminal fascist regime. 87 years ago Kristallnacht took place, a tragic episode in European history, in which Nazis and civilians intoxicated by the regime's propaganda arrested, tortured, killed Jews, confiscating or destroying their property and property places of worship”, Ilie Bolojan said.
The prime minister pointed out that that moment later led “to one of the darkest chapters in history – the Holocaust”.
“As hatred knew no borders, this wave also spread in Romania, isolated incidents becoming systematic acts of state persecution directed against Jewish communities. Therefore, today, when the ghosts of hatred and intolerance are increasingly present in our societies, we must all assume the responsibility to act coherently and strongly so that hatred, prejudice or discrimination are no longer tolerated and we no longer validate attitudes that undermines trust and social cohesion”, the prime minister also said.
At the end of the message, Bolojan reaffirmed “the firm commitment of the Romanian Government to combat anti-Semitism, discrimination, xenophobia, radicalization and hate speech”.
