The request to cancel the prohibition of Simion to enter Moldova, judged one day after the second round of the elections in Romania

A court in Chisinau will examine on May 19, George Simion's request to cancel the entry prohibition in the Republic of Moldova. The court hearing was established for the second day after the second round of the presidentials in Romania, in which Simion entered the second round, writes Moldova Free Europe.

The hearings in the process “Simion George-Nicolae versus the General Inspectorate for Migration” will take place at the Chisinau Court, the Râșcani headquarters, at 14:30, an announcement on the national portal of the courts is said. The trial began in June 2023, and since then the prohibition was extended to Simion once again, the same year.

Simion, who just won the first round of the repeated presidential elections in Romania, on May 4, obtaining almost 41%, received for the first time an entry prohibition in Moldova in 2009. It was then expelled by the Moldovan police, after a manifestation commercially commemorating the union of Bessarabia with Romania, which would have violated public order.

The exact reasons were not explicitly announced by the Chisinau authorities. Parliamentary sources have told free Europe that these are classified information, and their disclosure is liable to punishment.

Simion's lawyer, Iulian Rusanovschi, told Europe free that he cannot disclose the content of the file that “is secret”, but confirmed that at the hearings of May 19, the entry prohibition in Moldova for Simion will be discussed.

A long string of prohibitions

In October 2018, George Simion was declared persona non grata in the Republic of Moldova, for a period of 5 years. In June 2022, George Simion was not allowed to enter the Republic of Moldova, trying to go there as part of a delegation of the Romanian Parliament for a common meeting with the Moldovan Parliament. Simion tried to enter the diplomatic passport, although he knew he was banning to enter the Republic of Moldova.

It was not the first time that the gold leader tries to enter the Republic of Moldova using the diplomatic passport of parliamentarian. He did it in 2021, but still without success.

The leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians received the first prohibition of entry into the Republic of Moldova in March 2009, in the time of Vladimir Voronin, because he had violated public order. Then he was part of the “Romanian Spirit” initiative group, another time it was presented as the member of the Association “New Golan”, wrote Free Europe.

In December 2014, the access was forbidden again to the Republic of Moldova, being taken down from the line coach coming to Chisinau. The leader of the Unionist Platform for the 2012 action for several years.

In May 2015, on the eve of a protest, he was declared an undesirable person in the Republic of Moldova, for a term of five years, for reasons of national security. In a few months, in September, the expulsion decision was suspended in court, and in February 2016.

In 2018, George Simion again received a ban on entering the Republic of Moldova, also for five years. An aggressive and inadequate behavior was invoked in the Moldovan customs post, as well as security reasons.
