Gică Popescu (58 years old), the president of Farul, went live on Friday evening, after the team he leads won at home, score 2-0, against the current leader, FC Botoșani, in the 16th stage of the Superliga.
Popescu spoke about the team's goal, qualifying for the play-offs, and recalled the performance in 2017, when no one gave the seaside team a chance, which eventually produced a surprise and became champions.
At the moment, the “sailors” are not thinking that far, but qualification in the Top 6 is a priority. Farul is currently in 6th place, with 25 points.
Also, the president of Farul believes that all the teams that will qualify for the play-offs will have a chance for the title.
Gică Popescu's conclusions, after two victories in a row for the Lighthouse
“We are in the play-off place, which means we are in the schedule. As a game, we did it very well, just like in the last stage. The first 20 minutes were in favor of Botoșani, they had great opportunities to score, but Buzbuchi had an excellent day. The rest of about 70 minutes were in our favor.
The play-off is the objective that we have discussed since the first day, since Zicu came to the helm of the team. Once you're in the top six, the tension and pressure of the play-out is gone, as well as the risk of a possible relegation to the lower places, which can give you thrills.
In the play-offs, the players relax. I remember 2017, when nobody gave the team a chance, and from there the championship was won. Any team in the playoffs will have a shot at the title. When you're up, anything can happen, you can even think about the European cups”, said Gică Popescu after the match, on the “Digi Sport Special” show, from Digi Sport.
